今日は、当校のウェブ管理でお世話になっているTMスクールの水谷先生とトシ先生とで焼肉を食べに行きました。

焼き肉は、ここ１年くらい食べていませんでしたが、久しぶりに食べるとやっぱりおいしいですね。

３人ともかなりの大食漢ということもあり、かなりの量のお肉が胃袋の中に消えていったと思います。

というわけで、今日の「クドク講義」は、以下の英文の下線部を和訳してみましょう。

継続多読クドク講義 No.1

さて、それでは、今日から、いよいよ、シリーズモノのブログレクチャーをスタートしたいと思います。

月、水、金曜日は、「転んでもタダでは起きない単語の増やし方」。

火、木曜日は、「継続多読クドク講義」。

土曜日は、「ヒロ水越の喜怒哀楽で綴る留学日記」。

こんな感じでお送りしていきますね。

さて、本日は、、「継続多読クドク講義」の第1回です。この講義では、TIME誌や英字新聞などで解釈するのが難しい英文を抜き出して、その解釈の方法を「クドクド」と説明してみたいと思っています。

なお、この「クドク講義」で取り上げた英文の中に登場する「難解な語彙」を、明日の、「転んでもタダでは起きない単語の増やし方」で取り上げ、着実に記憶するような方法をご紹介しますので、楽しみにしていてください。

それでは、早速、「講義」に入りましょう。　以下の英文はTIME誌の2007年12月3日号の記事「What makes us moral 」からの抜粋です。下線を引いたセンテンスの意味を考えてみてください。

We're a species that is capable of almost dumbfounding kindness. We nurse one another, romance one another, weep one another. Ever since science taught us how, we willingly tear the very organs from our bodies and give them to one another. And at the same time, we slaughter one another.The past 15 years of human history are the temporal equivalent of those subatomic particles that are created in accelerators and vanish in a trillionth of a second, but in that fleeting instant, we've visited untold horrors on ourselves.
